It’s pretty nice being able to have a place for guests to sleep over when needed. I know it’s not fun watching your family or friends drive away for the night as they make their way to the nearest hotel. Sometimes we just don’t have an extra bedroom to make their stay possible. So is it futon vs sofa bed?
It makes sense that you just want an occasional place for someone to crash if needed. When you don’t have a guest room, what do you do? Well there is the age ol question, do you go with a futon, or a sleeper sofa? Well I’ve broken down the pro’s and Cons and you can decide what works best for you.
Much more comfortable to sleep on. You can choose the mattress you want, and it can be as hard or as soft as you’d like.
They can easily fit 2 people comfortably. Just be sure you get the right size pad.
Budget friendly. You can get more for your dollar if you go with a futon.
These are not the most visually appealing pieces of furniture. Futons can look cheap and probably remind you of your first apartment out of college.
The mattress can often be lumpy and even difficult to get out of. As a result, they are not very comfortable to sit on.
No one knows the difference. It looks like a regular beautiful sofa. It just also happens to be a place to sleep.
Sofa beds are much more enjoyable to sit on, as well as get out of.
More expensive. If you want to get one, you want to make sure it’s a nice one. These can be pretty pricey. You really don’t want to skimp on one of these.
Less mattresses choices. You can be flexible when choosing the overall dimensions, as well as the style of the sofa. However this isn’t the case with the mattress.
They don’t last too long as they are usually stuck in a folded position. So they can begin to sag and get quite uncomfortable after a while.
If you want something that would act as a sofa 90% of the time, then I say get a sleeper sofa. You need something that can be used for both purposes, and you ‘re happy with over time. It’s much more comfortable to sit on, and looks nicer on the eyes. Again, be prepared to spend some money on a great one. In addition, I recommend getting a mattress pad to lay down on top of, it makes a world of difference.
In the end, a futon is okay and all, but they are still uncomfortable to sit on, sleep on, and look at. So go buy yourself a sleeper sofa. A nice one. You’ll be happy you did. Also, check out ‘Sleeper Sofas That Don’t Look Like Sleeper Sofas‘ and start getting inspired.
